My husband Josh heard about this opportunity in South Korea just before Christmas. He attended a meeting with Mr. Lee that turned into an interview and a salary negotiation. It happened very quickly. Josh and I discussed it during the drive to NY and decided it was a great opportunity (hence the random Korean status updates and references to becoming an expat on my Facebook status).

iStock_000008878590XSmallThis was not the first time that we encountered a potential international opportunity so we honestly did not know if this one would come to fruition. We came very close to moving to South Africa in 2008 and almost went to Italy for a few months in 2009 (and then a massive earthquake occurred), so let’s just say we have been down this road before.

We wanted to take it slow and make sure that Josh had his six month work visa in place before booking his airline tickets. In short that wouldn’t work for Mr. Lee because he wanted Josh on the job right away. This project involves the manufacturing of GFRC (Glass Fiber Reinforced Concrete) panels. It is one of the biggest GFRC projects in the world and it was already in progress. Josh is in charge of the quality control department so his presence was needed immediately.

We prayed about it and decided it was an opportunity we could not pass up and made a bold move.

So Josh left on January 23. I wanted to be able to give my two weeks notice at my job and tie up some loose ends in Texas so I booked a later flight. I leave on February 4th.

I am very excited for the adventure. My only concern is putting my little dog in cargo for 14 hours. He has all of his health documents completed and should not have to spend any time in quarantine.

Our housing and utilities are fully paid for in S Korea so that takes a huge fiscal burden off our shoulders. (We still have our house in Hessel Michigan which we might be selling if anyone is interested).

I am looking forward to learning a new culture, a new language, and exploring different landscapes.

So that’s a brief synopsis. I will be sure to keep everyone posted on Josh and Keri’s crazy adventure. ;)

Cheers
Keri
