No it’s not a car, I am not sure I would want to drive here. We finally broke down and got a bike. Josh has been utilizing the car pool, but since we live very close to where he works a bike might be more convenient and healthier.

It’s not a Trek or a Gary Fisher, it’s a Dahon (a commuter bike). Josh had researched the different types of bikes online and this one is lightweight (the frame is made of aluminum) and portable (it folds and can be carried in a bag). We can bring it on the subway and we could easily transport it back to the states. There were other bikes that have the folding feature but Dahon was the first to come out with this technology so we thought it would be the “safer” bet, even though it was a little more expensive than the others.

I didn’t like it at first but I am very fond of my Trek. I have had it since college and though it has seen better days it is still functional and currently in storage. ;( I don’t need a bike yet but it will come in very handy if I start teaching. There are a few schools within walking distance, but a bike will be faster and more convenient for carrying things. Josh used his to transport a few groceries home today, there is a carrier with a strap on the back (see picture).

Once I have a bike we can do a lot more exploring, as we will be able to cover more ground. Maybe next weekend …
