I was very nervous about little Titan flying in cargo. I was a little comforted when I met a couple at the airport who was traveling with a dog as well, Buster. So at least little Titan was not alone on the flight. I chatted with the man at the TSA and he was very nice and assured me they would take care of Titan and he would be fine.

The couple I met, Matthew and Heather are in the military and will be in South Korea for 3 years. They were also traveling with their 11 month old daughter, Sierra. Needless to say they had a lot of bags with them. I actually boarded early by pretending I was with them. ;) I am pretty sure that they had more than the allowed carry in luggage but they were able to slide by. more…

In the confrontation between the stream and the rock, the stream always wins – not through strength but by perseverance. – H. Jackson Brown.

I saw this quote once on one of those “Successories” posters, and it got my attention. Not just because of the beautiful landscape that was associated with it, (The Grand Canyon), but because I liked the idea of water prevailing over stone.

The Red Rock Canyon may not be as magnificent as the Grand Canyon, but its beauty will still take your breath away. more…

Attacked by a Manta Ray? My husband froze while this magnificent creature did somersaults beneath him. Ironically it was the Manta Ray that was in danger.

Josh and I were the first divers in the water. We shined our dive lights down, attracting plankton and consequently a large Manta Ray. It kept somersaulting underneath us, so close we were afraid to kick our fins. (Touching the Manta Ray can disrupt its protective covering which makes it more prone to infection.)

Once underwater the scene before us was like something out of a science fiction film. There were huge underwater spotlights set up in the middle of a circle of scuba divers. Before the dive, we were all instructed to point our dive lights up once we were seated. Nine Manta Rays made an appearance, swooping through the beams of light which pulsated with thousands of tiny plankton and small fish. It was an unforgettable, amazing experience.

Flying over the island of Hawaii to witness an active volcano was an adventure that Josh and I could not pass up. The visibility was not ideal but it’s not every day you get to see an island being built.

On March 7, 2008, two days before our flight, there was a great deal of excitement on the island of Hawaii. The lava had completed its journey down the slopes of the Kilauea volcano and started to flow into the ocean.

We were fortunate enough to get a reservation with Blue Hawaiian Helicopter Tours. We flew  in the Eco-Star, (which is supposed to be the “cadillac” of the helicopters). The seating arrangements were based upon weight. I got to sit in the “co-pilot” seat so I had a fantastic view. Our pilot, Brandon, gave us an overview of the various sites as we flew over them. more…
